Continuing Education is not provided for this training. 

Training Mission: Decrease the adverse impact of opioids on Texas residents, with an immediate emphasis on reducing overdose mortality through best practices and providing greater access to opioid overdose medication such as Naloxone/Narcan.

Training is provided virtually via Zoom.

Funding from the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention at the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in the Department of Health and Human Services, through the Texas Department of Health and Human Services

About the Speaker(s)

Dr. Cavazos has been in the nursing profession for the past 24 years and has been in academia since 2009. Her current research interest is focused on issues empowering women victims of intimate partner violence and issues affecting patients with limited English proficiency. She works to manage an online project that provides training to Spanish-speaking health care providers to improve medical Spanish proficiency while meeting the requirements to apply for national certification for healthcare interpreters.

Through research, interventions and outreach projects,sheimplements her clinical, teaching and research experience to create awareness of health disparitiesand health inequityamong specific groups in the community. She is an advocate for cultural awareness to promote changes in professional behavior to better serve our community, thus stimulating healthcare system and policy changes.

Dr. Cavazos is actively involved with organizations that servecommunities with special needs around San Antonio. She is an active member of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN), and serves as Advisor for Hispanic Student Nurse Association (HSNA). She is also a certified Medical Interpreter (Spanish) and an American Heart Association CPR instructor.
